Gaberoun

Gaberoun is a striking desert oasis in the Idehan Ubari sand sea of southwestern Libya. At its center is a large, salty blue-green lake bordered by tall sand dunes and palm trees. The small ruins of an old village and a few simple tourist huts sit on the shore.

Gaberoun is the largest and most famous of the Ubari lakes, and it has been a local watering and fishing spot for generations. Some accounts describe small shrimp or crustaceans in the salty water and the ruins of former settlement on the shore.

The setting is peaceful and photogenic. Sunrise and sunset light on the dunes and palms give especially beautiful photos and quiet moments to enjoy the desert.
